Another day, another rapper stuck in tax evasion charges. Ja Rule was sentenced Monday to more than two years in federal prison due to his failing to file income tax returns. Ja Rule said it was a mistake of his youth.

I in no way attempted to deceive the government or do anything illegal. I was a young man who made a lot of money – Im getting a little choked up – I didnt know how to deal with these finances, and I didnt have people to guide me, so I made mistakes.

Back in March, Ja Rule confessed that he failed to pay taxes on more than his $3 million income he earned between 2004 and 2006. The rapper was sentenced in NYC last month after pleading guilty to attempted criminal weapon possession.

For the tax evasion charges, Ja Rule will serve up to 28 months of the federal sentence, and this could be served at the same time as his New York state prison sentence, in Oneida Correctional Facility in upstate New York. Ja Rule has also been ordered to pay $1.1 million in unpaid taxes.
