Fashion Takes Action, a Toronto based non profit organization, focuses on sustainability in the fashion industry with a vision “For every garment, shoe and accessory to have sustainability stitched in, from fibre to finish.” They do this by providing their members with resources, and by raising consumer awareness through social media, public speaking events, media articles and interviews. If you are in the Toronto area, check out their open house this Thursday, February 16th, where you can shop and meet some of the designers and learn more about the Fashion Takes Action project.

One of favourite ‘new’ comedians right now is Hannibal Buress. A writer featured on 30 rock and one of the main acts of current HBO ‘Funny as Hell’ this guy is absolutely fantastic. his delivery is on the verge of perfect.

The birth of sustainable fashion really was quite a long while ago. It started once upon a time, with the tree-hugging hippie-influenced dedication to locally grown, pesticide free, and handmade products but has now grown into one of the most sophisticated and highly influential markets in the world, bleeding its value-based philosophies into every nook and cranny possible, in hopes of making the world better through fashion.

In the 50s the social elite wore couture and those who could not afford couture, tried to follow fashion by making their own clothes. The 60s and 70s marked the birth of mass production as fashion houses started to manufacture clothes overseas to lower production costs in order to make apparel and accessories more ‘financially attainable’ to the masses.
